Imagine the Healing Power of 800 Physicians
Project Access is a story about improving the health of a community...one person at a time. It is a story about collaboration, among physicians from all specialties, among private and public sector organizations, and among individuals who share in the spirit of giving. But most importantly, Project Access is a success story.
What began in 2003 with seed money donated by Providence Health Care has grown to a community-wide partnership including more than 800 physicians providing medical care to low income uninsured residents of Spokane County.
With ongoing support from Providence, this network of doctors, nurses, hospitals, pharmacists, government agencies, and churches, heal the sick and injured among us. Project Access provides health care with dignity and hope. In return, lives are restored, families are reunited, workers return to their jobs, and the community is made better.
This is a story about a community’s collective ability to improve lives and restore faith. Like Beau Mellem, whose life-saving heart surgery allowed him to return to work, get health insurance, and live a full life.

Wow that was unusual. I just wrote an really long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t appear. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again. Regardless, just wanted to say wonderful blog!
Providence has been a great partner for http://www.accelerationphysicaltherapy.com (Acceleration Physical Therapy). Primary care physicians and surgeons work closely with us to solve orthopedic problems. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Great people and do so much for the local community. Thank you.
I think this is great however, The staff need more RNs and Nacs to help with the patient loads on the main towers . We are drowning and asking for help ! But not getting it from our employer. Please listen to us ! The Public has been asking us ” Where is the staff “…… They are complaining to us ! I direct them to Administration. We need to be heard ! Please listen !
Project Access is just one example of the amazing work Providence does to help the people of Spokane. Thank you for all you do!
I would like to extend a personal thank you and express my gratitude to Providence Health for not only being a leader in the medical field, but also in giving back to our community. In tough times, Providence has shown an ability to give back to our community ($73 Million) – which is incredible. This is due to your wonderful employees. I personally have used your healthcare services and had a wonderful experience and will continue to support and receive my care at Providence. Thank you for taking care of our community in health and in giving back! You are appreciated!
It is great to see such a sense of community born through the tireless efforts of many. Providence provides great leadership and is one of Spokane’s largest employers, so in addition to helping people with the benefits of their labor, they also help a great many families put food on their table.
Thank you for all that you do for the great Inland Empire!
Providence Health Care gives so much back to our community, as is evidenced by the recent Community Benefits Report. Their mission is to help those who can’t help themselves, and the impact of that mission is so positive for our community. We would like to thank everyone who works tirelessly toward this goal.
Each of us who call Spokane home should be thankful for the organizations that make our city special. Providence was one of the first and remains a leader dedicated to keeping our community healthy and vibrant. We are so fortunate to be the beneficiaries of the prayerful guidance of the Sisters of Providence and the professionals who work tirelessly to carry out their compassionate Mission on a daily basis.
The spirit of giving is one of life’s greatest rewards. It is great to see how the spirit of giving and compassion is woven throughout an organization like Providence and in the hearts of their employees and volunteers. Project Access helps serve our community through access to specialty care and through the promotion of health. Thank you Providence!
I am always amazed at the breadth and depth of the impact an organization can make in a community. I have been lucky enough to hear the stories, and see the results, of the commitment Providence has to a better and healthier community. It is particularly impressive when you realize the commitment and dedication they have to the Mission and Values of the Sister’s of Providence. They live it every day. Spokane is a great community, at it is made better by the efforts that you can read about in this report. Thank you Providence.
Sacred Heart and Holy Family are pilars of our community. Providence is one of the largest employeers in our community, providing good jobs for people in our community. They also are a organization that sincerely lives their Mission of serving our community – the young, the old, the poor the disabled and everyone else!
Thanks Providence for all you and your employees do for the greater Spokane Community. The Community Benefit Report detailing over $73 million in care is only a small part of the picture! I have had the privilege to attend several functions where story after story has been told about how an employee of Providence has gone out of the way to help a patient in need. Whether it is driving someone home, providing clothing or maybe providing a place to stay for a family that is out of town your employees go above and beyond. They serve with a great compassion for their work.
Every encounter I have ever had with an employee has been nothing but exceptional – and the care provided nothing but the best!!
Thanks Providence for all you do – it is appreciated.
That’s great! 12 of you walk into a busy Downtown Spokane restaurant during lunch rush and all want to sit together. Impossible without a call ahead, by the way. We may be small, but we have some protocols.
Some of you ate in a restaurant I work in, and do not understand the importance of gratuity. You were rude and unappreciative, and for a single mother without health insurance I am left to the devices of a local clinic. $4.00 for a $100+order? Where the hell are you people from?
There were a few in your party who were kind, and to them I say Thank-you. You know who you were.
To those of you who were nasty and cheap (didn’t even want to say whom you were with as far as your reason for being in Spokane) I say–Make your own lunch next time you come to Spokane!
Leadership Spokane thanks you so much for your support–your annual pledge means a great deal to us as well as your commitment to putting an employee through the Leadership Spokane program each year. best wishes, Linda
